Release notes

What’s new in Ait

Ait updates itself: Check for Updates… in the menu bar menu installs the next version in one click.

0.8.0

A calmer island: soft sounds, a blue glow on hover, and Timer and Voice widgets with nothing extra.

  • Soft sounds: a quiet, warm breath of air as the island opens and closes.
  • A blue glow on hover: the resting island stays put and its glow comes up.
  • A minimal Timer widget, with Play in the middle and the time under it, and a new Timer page with any length up to four hours.
  • A minimal Voice widget: the microphone over Dictation, and Paste once there is a transcript.
  • Fewer words on widgets; hints moved to Settings and Setup.

0.7.1

More room in Actions, and every action can be edited and rearranged.

  • Twelve actions, in two rows of six. Number keys 1–9 and 0 run the first ten.
  • Edit any action: its name and what it opens, from Settings › Actions or the tile’s menu on the island.
  • Drag tiles to reorder, the same way widgets move on the dashboard.
  • One Actions icon in Settings and on the island.

0.7.0

Shape the closed island your way, and a click opens it again.

  • Customize the closed island: its width, the wings beside the camera, the outline and the glow, in Settings › General.
  • A click opens the island. Resting the pointer grows it a little and shows what is running, or “Open ait”. Open on Hover is still in Settings.
  • The outline follows the closed island everywhere, not only while nothing runs.
  • A cleaner shadow under the open island, no longer cut off at its edge.
  • Reset Widgets puts Productivity and Dev back to their standard layout.

0.6.2

AirDrop by dropping files works again, and the island opens on hover.

  • Drop files on AirDrop to send them: the Shelf’s AirDrop zone opens AirDrop again; anywhere else on the island keeps them on the shelf.
  • The island opens on hover. If you chose click-to-open in Settings › General, that stays.
  • Beta testers get a free Ait Lifetime key when Ait becomes paid.

0.6.1

Ait looks for updates every time it starts.

  • Updates are found when Ait starts: a background check a few seconds after every launch — with Launch at Login, when your Mac starts — and once a day. A new version shows as the New Update button in the island.
  • Automatic checks are on by default. If you turned them off, they stay off; Settings › General has the switch. Only the app version is sent.

0.6.0

Arrange your widgets the way you arrange them on the Mac desktop.

  • Widgets you arrange: drag any widget on Productivity or Dev to move it; right-click for Small or Medium, Edit Widgets… and Remove Widget. The widget gallery adds back what you removed.
  • Productivity in one row: Now Playing, the timer, Voice and Mirror side by side. Pomodoro is a timer preset, and Voice lost its extra text.
  • Island: click the notch to close it; a stronger shadow and a rim on dark wallpapers; smoother opening and closing.
  • GitHub: its own mark, and Hide for a state you don’t want to see until it changes.
  • Right-click menus work in Clipboard, Shelf, Quick Actions and Voice. Quick Actions add Slack and Linear.

0.5.0

A more focused Ait: coding agents, GitHub, music and a few fast tools.

  • Recent on the Dev page: the last three things that finished — an agent turn, a build or test run, a pull request merged — stay for 30 minutes.
  • GitHub shows what needs you: failed checks, requested changes and reviews for your branches. The contribution graph is gone.
  • A simpler Productivity page: Now Playing and the timer on top, Voice and Mirror below.
  • Removed: Calendar, Meeting Mode, Reminders, the low battery and audio device notices, the audio switcher, Daily Glance and the stopwatch. Ait no longer asks for calendar access.

0.4.0

A redesigned island, AirDrop as its own drop zone, the Dev page as a grid, and a stability pass.

  • A new Productivity dashboard: a square Now Playing widget, a wider timer with Timer, Pomodoro and Stopwatch side by side, and a bigger Mirror.
  • AirDrop has its own drop zone on the Shelf. Drop files on it to send them.
  • The Dev page is a grid of Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and GitHub, with Cursor’s own mark.
  • You can see the island at rest, with the Ait mark and the dashboard grid beside the camera.
  • Settings: Check for Updates in About; long sections fade out instead of being cut off.
  • Browser music is experimental: turn on System Now Playing in Settings → Activities.
  • Steadier: pastes wait for the right app, and quitting releases the microphone and camera.

0.3.0

Dictation from any app, Cursor, coding-agent stages, global shortcuts, Reminders, Pomodoro and a stopwatch.

  • Dictate from anywhere. Hold ⌃⌥D in any app, speak and let go: the text appears where your cursor is. Recognized on your Mac; audio is never saved.
  • Translate as you speak. Hold ⌃⌥T to insert your words in another language, translated on your Mac (macOS 26).
  • Cursor joins Claude Code and Codex, and every agent shows what it’s doing: Thinking, Reading, Editing, Running Command.
  • Usage at a glance with reset times, highlighted near the limit, and how full a session’s context is.
  • Global shortcuts: ⌃⌥A opens Ait, ⌃⌥V your clipboard history. Set more in Settings.
  • Pomodoro and a stopwatch in the Timer.
  • Reminders that are due soon, near the notch.
  • File Shelf: AirDrop your files, and add them from Finder’s menu.

0.2.1

Widget pages, an island that’s easier to find, and a quieter way to learn about updates.

  • Widget pages. Click a widget to open its page: Now Playing, Calendar, Timer, Voice, Audio and Mirror.
  • A resting island you can find: a faint outline, and a Daily Glance with the date and your next event.
  • Music beside other activities shows its cover with moving bars in the wing.
  • Updates show a button in the island instead of a window over your work.

0.2.0

Music from any app, GitHub for developers, and a quieter, more accessible island.

  • Now Playing from any app, browsers included: YouTube and other sites as well as Music and Spotify.
  • GitHub for the branch you’re on: failed checks, reviews and merges, plus your contribution graph.
  • A quieter island. Volume and charging are left to macOS; one low battery heads-up at 20% remains.
  • Pages in the island: Productivity, Dev, Shelf, Clipboard and Quick Actions.
  • Accessibility: VoiceOver, Escape to close, Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion.

0.1.1

Built-in updates.

  • Check for Updates… in the menu bar menu, with an optional daily check. Every update is signed, and Ait refuses one that isn’t.

0.1.0

The first public release.

  • The island on the MacBook camera housing, or a virtual island on displays without one.
  • Now Playing, Calendar with a meeting readiness check, and audio devices.
  • Tools: Timer, Mirror, Voice, Clipboard history, File Shelf and Quick Actions.
  • Coding agents: Claude Code and Codex status, and the ait command-line tool.

Try Ait on your Mac.

Free during the public beta. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
