Guide

Dictate into any app with one shortcut.

Hold ⌃⌥D wherever you are typing, speak, and let go. Ait inserts the text at your cursor and shows what it heard in the MacBook notch.

How it works

  1. Put the cursor where the text should go: a message, a document, a prompt for your coding agent.
  2. Hold ⌃⌥D. The island shows Listening with a live waveform.
  3. Let go. Ait transcribes and inserts the text. Prefer a toggle? Press once to start and again to stop.

Translate as you speak

Hold ⌃⌥T instead and Ait inserts your words in another language, translated by Apple’s on-device translation. Needs macOS 26 and the languages downloaded in System Settings.

Private by design

Speech is recognized on your Mac and audio is never saved. Nothing goes to a translation service. Ait asks for the microphone and speech recognition the first time you dictate, and for Accessibility to insert text; until you allow it, the text is copied instead.

Make it yours

In Settings → Shortcuts → Dictation: choose Hold or Toggle, insert, copy or show the text in Ait, change the shortcut and the translation language.

Try Ait on your Mac.

Free during the public beta. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.
